Damaging or removing political signs is illegal
Sheriff Bob Peryam would like to remind everyone that damaging or removing political signs without the permission of the owner of the signs is against the law.
While the Sheriff’s Office has received just two formal complaints, Sheriff Peryam says he and other members of his staff have received informal reports that some signs have been tampered with in various ways. So far, no one who has mentioned the incidents has wished to file a formal complaint.
He would like to encourage candidates who are having problems to come forward and make a report about it so our agency can investigate.
“Damaging a sign constitutes the crime of Criminal Mischief and removing one entirely is theft,” he said. “We take these crimes very seriously and will investigate them accordingly.”
“This activity will not be tolerated,” said Sheriff Peryam, “and violators will be arrested without any exception.”
