Naples man arrested for driving drunk, recklessly

A Naples man was arrested for driving drunk and recklessly Friday night on Sugarloaf Key.

Deputy Greg Korzen was on the northbound shoulder of the road at the 18.5 mile marker at 8:45 p.m. when he saw an orange Camaro driving recklessly at a high rate of speed, northbound in the southbound lanes of the highway. The vehicle passed a tractor trailer truck and two other vehicles in a no passing zone. Deputy Korzen’s radar measured the vehicle’s speed at 96 mile per hour in a 45 mile per hour zone.

Deputy Korzen turned on his lights and siren. As he followed the Camaro, he saw it swerving across both the white and double yellow lines on the road, at times swerving into oncoming traffic. The vehicle finally pulled over at the 20 mile marker of the highway.

The driver, 45 year old Alan McEnery of Naples, Florida told Deputy Korzen he was at the 80 mile marker heading to the 150 mile  marker to his hotel in Marathon. He admitted to drinking alcohol before driving and had no explanation for his reckless driving patterns.

McEnery failed field sobriety exercises and refused a breathalyzer test. He was charged with unlawful speed, driving under the influence of alcohol, reckless driving, passing in a no passing zone, failing to drive in a single lane and refusal to sign a civil citation.

He was booked into jail.
