Stock Island man charged with burglary
A Stock Island man was arrested after he attempted to retrieve his truck from a towing company after hours.
A woman who lives on the property of Anchor Towing on Rockland Key called the Sheriff’s Office just before midnight after she caught 25 year old Paul Burns trying to cut the lock on the front gate.
As deputies were responding, Burns fled the area. He returned a short time later and continued his attempts to cut the lock and gain entrance to the tow yard. The witness again heard him and called 911 a second time. Deputy Vicki Lockwood-Fleck arrived and Burns ran again, fleeing across the highway. He was carrying bold cutters which he threw into the bushes as the deputy caught up with him. He was placed under arrest.
On the way to jail, Burns said he parked his truck at Old City Hall in Key West and it was towed. He said he tried to get it back during the day, but didn’t have enough money.
Burns was charged with burglary and possession of burglary tools. He was booked into jail.
